I have an unhealthy obsession with Mardi Gras. (I've spent my snow day reading all that I can on what's happening in the Big Easy today - I'm that girl...) It's the one place that I've always wanted to go. It's an unlikely destination for someone like me to covet. I don't really drink. I don't plan to ever dance in sexy outfits just to gain beads. And large crowds really aren't my thing. But nevertheless, I've always wanted to visit and witness the madness. It's raucous and crazy and all sorts of indulgent. Basically how can you not want to partake in the insanity? I can almost taste the beignets and hear the zydeco. Not to mention envision the gorgeous ante-bellum mansions and crafty floats all through the French Quarter
Those that have gone, tell me that it's not really all that exciting. They say it's dirty and maddening and to stay away. But I choose not to listen to them. I'm not letting them burst my Cajun bubble. One of these days, I plan to let the good times roll. Just as soon as I can get the courage up!

Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!
Every year, around this time, I start daydreaming about the Big Easy. I've never been but it's just one of those places that seems about perfect. One of the many reasons I've fallen head over heels for a place I've never seen is the craziness, insanity, & sheer bedlam that is Mardi Gras. The parades, the food, the clothes, the floats, the food, the music, have I mentioned the food? I just want to breathe it all in! I'm sure that it's probably not really my cup of tea. Of course flashing for beads, drinking until I'm sick and partying until dawn, really isn't my idea of a good time. But I think that's the fun of it. I may not partake in all the semi-legal activities, but that doesn't mean I don't want to experience it at least once. I suppose until I get my chance, I'll be Laissez-ing les bon temps rouler here in chilly Maryland with Pancakes and dollar store beads. Not nearly as fun, I'm sure, but then again I won't have to deal with the hangover tomorrow...

Laissez le Bon Temps Rouler!
Well, Shrove Tuesday is once again upon us which means Mardi Gras time is here again. Don't get me wrong, I happen to love the pancakes I have for dinner each year to celebrate the holiday. However, what I've always wanted to do to celebrate Fat Tuesday is party like crazy in New Orleans.
I'm not entirely sure why. It's pretty much the antithesis of my scene. There are LOTS of drunken disorderly people going off the deep end. There are parties at all hours of the night. But there's also food, food, food and music and sites galore. I'd probably have a panic attack in the swarms and crowds but that's never stopped me from dreaming about a quick trip to the Big Easy, if only to gorge on Cafe du Monde beignets...
