OC Girls Day

After spending a positively glorious beach day in Ocean City, MD beaching, shopping, and eating with the mama, I'm very happy and very tired.  The weather was perfect.  The company was perfect.  And the day was fabulously perfect, just like it is every year.  Now, do I really have to go back to work tomorrow...??

Friday Five: Vacation Edition

1. Rosenfelds Jewish Deli: They recently opened in OCMD and I'm in love.  Their latkes and pastrami were to die for.  It was so darn yummy, we went twice in 2 days.  Now that's commitment.

2. Lights of Broadway Show Cards: I'm pretty obsessed with these card packs at the moment.  Each time I visit NYC, I feel the need to buy a pack for me, as well as one for the bestie - even though I'm not really sure she's even a fan like I am.  I'm fairly certain she's just humoring me at this point.  It's not like I've gotten really good packs either, but they just seem to get me.  The last pack I got among other people I didn't know, "Next to Normal"! and this time around, among other people I didn't really know I got "Falsettos".  Seriously!? One show I love and one show I'm hoping to love when it opens this Fall.  

3.  Liberty Island and a perfect view from Liberty Island: It's a way touristy thing to say, but on a perfect summer day, it was the perfect place to be.  Between the boat ride, the super sweet lemonade and the bright blue sky, we were in heaven!

4. Even though we were stacked behind the tallest people to ever walk the earth, having the chance to go to a Live #Ham4Ham and "see" (Ok, hear...) Lin Manuel Miranda was pretty awesome.  Now if only we had actually won...

5. When it was cold, and windy and the line for Shake Shack was around the block after Matilda let out, finding out that our hotel had an adorable ice cream parlor in its lobby was total icing on the cake.  Some chocolate ice cream with a seat in the window to watch NY walk by was the perfect cap to the evening!

52 Lists: Week 19

Because I'm on vacation at the beach, I thought this week's list should be all my favorite parts of the beach.  

~ Sun, Sand and Sea - obviously!
~ Dumser's: The best place in OCMD to have ice cream, hands down.
~ Boog's BBQ: Owned by Boog Powell and just so happens to be right next to another of my favorite things of the beach -
~ Thrasher's French Fries: Just yum!
~ The outlets in Rehoboth
~ Sunsets and Sunrises
~ The Kite Loft on the Boardwalk and the Boardwalk too.
~ Fisher's Popcorn

When it's 20 degrees outside, the beach is slightly different.  However, it does have its perks...

End of Summer Review

Somehow, today is the unofficial end of summer.  I feel like it was just Memorial Day and yet here we are in September with our Pumpkin Spice everything and leaves already falling from the trees.

While I'm not at all happy to see summer go, I have to admit it was most definitely a good one.  One big across the pond trip.  Numerous trips to Naptown.  A day at the beach.  A Navy Football Game. A hot as heck day in DC and a presidential-ish day in NYC. The Color Run for the Second Time and my very first (and most definitely not my last) Supernatural Con. And two concerts - Darius Rucker (Awesome!) and Mumford & Sons (not so awesome.)  I aso saw Benedict Cumberbatch, Jim Parsons, President Obama and the entire cast of Supernatural live in person - oh and I saw Mickey from Doctor Who at Heathrow. I really can't complain!

So, as we all say hello to Fall tomorrow, I suppose I'd like to say, it was wonderful seeing you Summer, I can't wait see you again next year!

A Day at the Beach

There is nothing better than a day at the beach, especially when it's spent with someone you love.  BBQ for lunch, Ice Cream for dinner and sun, sand, and shopping in between.  So much better than going to work!

OC Beach Day

Sun, Sand, Sea, Fun day with the Mama, Thrasher's, Boog's, Dumser's, Outlets  and the Boardwalk - in other words a perfect Maryland Ocean City Day!  Do I really have to go back to work tomorrow...?

Wishful Wednesday

For the most part, I'm most often wishful about England.  I spend most days dreaming I was walking along the Thames, or grabbing a bite at a pub or just seeing a show on the West End.  However, just about this time each year - spring time right before it gets all scorching hot and too humid to even think about going outside, I start dreaming about the beach. 

I have always liked going to the beach, but it's never really been my go to travel destination.  I'd much rather visit huge cities or historic towns than spend hours upon hours rotating between sitting in the sticky sand and bouncing in the waves.  It's fun in small doses but after a few hours I'm done.  I think it may have something to do with growing up so close to Ocean City, MD.  It's within a 3 hours drive so it wasn't a HUGE deal when we picked up and made the trip, unlike someone living in landlocked Iowa, for example.

But, contrary to today's 30 degree temperatures, yesterday's 80 degree temps made me long for some sun, sand and surf.  I'm craving a good book, a comfy beach chair and some serious sun to give some color to these ghost white legs of mine. I want to jump into the waves and not freeze when I do so - though it's usually a pre-requisite in the chilly Atlantic.  Then I want to hit the boards and scarf down some Boog's BBQ & lemonade and top it all off with some Fisher's Popcorn and Dumser's Ice Cream.  (I never said it was a healthy fantasy). 

Come June, Coastal Highway will be inundated with senior weekers, bike weekers and family vacationers, thus making it a bit more overly-crowded and a lot less fun.  But for now, the beach is the perfect escape for summer dreamers.

Down the Ocean, Hon!

 

Girl Time with the Momma.  Cracker Barrel.  Outlet Shopping.  Super bargains.  Beach time.  Calm Seas.  Sun and sand.  Boog's BBQ.  Thrasher's French Fries.  Dumsers Ice Cream. 

Yep, a pretty perfect summer day! 

Summer in the City

The residual grumps from the never-ending rain that has finally ended, still remain.  But after a beautifully sunny and gorgeous day, they should be blowing out soon.  I think (knock on wood) it's time to focus on all the fun things that will be occurring this summer and start checking these babies off the list!

1.  Bestie Shopping day in Georgetown complete with Frozen Hot Chocolate (and of course lunch, but who cares when there's Frozen Hot Chocolate!?) at Serendipity 3. - Part of my birthday gift that I'm so looking forward to!
2.  "Taking Steps" by the Colonial Players in Annapolis - Second part of my birthday gift.  I'm loving this exploring of Maryland theatres that I've somehow lucked into this year.  Nothing beats Broadway or the West End, but we really do have some great artists here.
3. Dr. Oliver Sacks at 6th&I Synagogue in DC - I'm in awe of this man.  He's done some of the most fascinating research into the mind and how it works.  "The Man who Mistook his Wife for a Hat" is one of my all-time favorite books.  Getting the chance to hear him speak is definitely a highlight!
4. "Once" with Arthur Darvill on Broadway complete with summer day in the city with a great friend.  - We already have reservations at a cool Cuban place and are working on finding some sweet treats to occupy our time.  What's better than spending a whole day in the city that never sleeps?!
5. OC day with the Mama - A summer tradition that never fails.  Boog's and Thrasher's for lunch, beach time, outlet time and of course Dumser's for dessert.  Yum!

And of course so much more fun once Fall hits (Officially under 4 months until the big trip - 3 months and 29 days to be exact...: )  I'm sure there'll be more to come but for now, let's get this fantastic summer started! Now do you see why I was so eager for the rain to leave?

Down the Ocean, Hon

Today was a full Maryland day.  Made a quick jet down the ocean (hon!) where we proceeded to get sand blasted (not the best weather for the beach), then it was back to Naptown (Annapolis for you non-Annapolitans) to see the arrival of the HMS Bounty.  The replica of the actual Bounty that was built for "Mutiny on the Bounty" and used in "Pirates of the Carribbean", arrived in town today for the Star Spangled Sailabration.  This celebration is going on all week to commemorate the Bicentennial of the War of 1812, so I'm warning you.  If you don't like boats, you may want to avoid the blog over the next few days: Lots and Lots of Boat happenings : )
