Trivia Tuesday

~ Trivia would probably go alot more smoothly for our team if we were awarded 10 extra points every week simply for dressing up. The costumes may get old after a while, but 10 points could be helpful in our current slump.

~ Samhain - which is apparently the festival that Halloween is derived from - can be pronounced 3 different ways (2 of which don't even use any of the sounds the letters actually make) - and I've been mispronouncing it for a very long time. Also, my defense is that they totally said it the way I say it in an episode of Supernatural.

~ In a half time question on serial killers, we were able to name 4 of the 5 correctly.  I'm not sure that says anything good about our team.

~ You'd think in an evening that started with the question "Which are the 2 colors that are most closely associated with Halloween? we'd be on fire, but of course 4th place slump hit again.  Way too many people know stuff...

~ I learned this evening that if you look in a mirror at your reflection at midnight on Halloween, you'll see your future spouse in the mirror.  I'm equal parts curious and terrified to do this.

~ Before pumpkins, people would carve jack o lanterns out of turnips.  Just how impressive could a jack o lantern made out of a turnip be?  That's a pretty puny little carving.  On the other hand, I'll bet it's harder to carve a turnip than a big pumpkin so maybe it would be slightly impressive...

~ In things I've never ever heard of, and most likely will never need to know again - the singer of Monster Mash (the song everyone hears on Halloween) is Bobby Boris Pickett and the Crypt Keepers.

~ And from the weird laws department, silly string is banned in Hollywood on Halloween.  Why you may ask?  Because it's a pain in the neck to clean up.  Though it's a pain in the neck to clean the other 364 days of the year as well, so I'm not exactly sure what sets apart its annoyingness on Halloween.

I'm a big fan of Halloween.  Well, I'm a big fan of Dia de los Muertos.  And any time when I can add calaveras to my wardrobe, I'm a happy camper.  Today's duds were a super cool scarf and some awesome earrings I bought in St. Michaels.  Those cool things mixed with my cute fascinator, and yet nothing from the dumb boys I work with.  Seriously?  Are they blind?  

Anyway, hope your Halloween was sweet! 

Crafty Saturday Night

I might have a problem...

How else would I spend a Saturday night?  The cards may be done a bit early, but I love them, and now they're done!  I was never a huge Halloween fan.  I dressed up and did the candy thing, but I hate scary and that was always the theme of Halloween.  Sometime in the last few years, the world discovered Mexico's holiday of Dia de los Muertos, and Halloween got a lot more fun and whole lot less scary!  That's when I became an October 31st fan.

Celebrating those you loved by bringing them sweets and dressing up in bright beautiful colors seems like a whole lot more fun than being scared to death by a horror film.  That's exactly why I feel the need to share my love of cute skeleton heads with everyone I know each Halloween.  I'm not sure they appreciate it, but I have fun so there's that : )

Here's hoping that you had a wild and crazy all hallow's eve just like mine - tea and pumpkin bread, after tacos, on the sofa with friends and Big Bang Theory repeats.  It may not have required costumes, alcohol or candy, but I thought it was the best yet!

Friday Five: Halloween Edition

1. I love handing out candy because you get to see all the kiddies in some super cute costumes.  I was expecting loads of Anna's and Elsa's this year but only saw 3 and 2 Olaf's which were my fave.  Of course, none could compare to my favorite little trick or treater dressed as a Ninja Turtle.  After sticking his head almost completely in the doorway and sizing up the place, he said "I like your house." I foresee a future in interior design : )

2. Witchy Woman: It's a terrible photo but it was very early and selfies really aren't my forte. But the Salem witch hat went over well and I couldn't resist giving the parrot (my company's mascot) a little hat of his own.  Some witches have crow sidekicks.  Apparently mine is a parrot.

3.  I think everyone knows that Ellen is the queen of the costumes.  But she may have just outdone herself this year.  In honor of George Clooney's nuptials to Amal Almuddin, Ellen dressed up as Amal and George's wedding photo.  Complete with black wig, wedding dress and a tux for George.  Too funny!

4. Say what you want about Chris Evans, but this little guy is a much cuter Captain America!  And in case you were wondering, I saw this costume because I follow Clark Gregg on Twitter.  I find it awesome that all day people were sending Marvel costumes to him and Ming Na, as well as Firefly costumes to Nathan Fillion and the stars were re-tweeting all of them.  How cool is it that these guys and girls are noticing fan creativity! 

5. Had I found this list sooner, I'd like to think I would have completed all of the items on it to celebrate Dia de los Muertos!  Totally keeping it for next year!
