There are 3 things that I haven't been able to get off my mind all day. Neither of these three things are particularly interesting, however because it's the dog days of winter and not much else is happening, these are the three things I'm planning to write about this evening.
1. How exactly does a presenter that's paid to read a piece of paper announce the wrong name at the Academy Awards? I mean, how does that happen? With all the technology today, we haven't figured out a way around handing 2 giant movie stars the wrong envelope. I feel as this has never been an issue before, but for some reason in the last few years it just started happening.
However, I must hand it to the poor La La Land people for handling all of the awkwardness with grace and class.
2. The People vs. OJ Simpson is so good, that I'm literally angry at myself for not turning it on sooner. I was 10 when the whole OJ thing happened, so I remember bits and pieces - how could I not? It was on every station at every time of the day for months. But I definitely wasn't aware of details. So not only is The People vs. OJ Simpson entertaining but it's also enlightening. And the cast couldn't be any better. Ryan Murphy is super skillful at placing the right people in the right roles. You cannot take your eyes off of anyone. They're all so talented! I'm only 4 episodes in and I'm already sad that it will end in 6 episodes. I'm now trying to pace myself just to make it last.
3. I love living in the future. Somehow we haven't mastered the art of handing people the correct envelopes, but I can click a few buttons and watch an amazing show on British television from the comfort of my American sofa. I'm so happy Broadchurch is back on my television screen. Talk about talented casts. This is another show where you can't pull your eyes away for a second because of the uber-talented cast and the intriguing story. This year's story line - revolving around the sexual assault of a woman in town - has been handled with so much respect and grace. Everyone involved seems to have made the decision that awareness and treatment of this epidemic is extremely important which is nice to see. Such great television, that I'm so happy I don't have to wait the 10 weeks for that I usually do.

Friday Five
1. I've been anxiously awaiting this list of 52 places to go in 2015, since New Year's Eve. Since I'm doing a bit of travel this year, I thought for sure at least a few of the places I was visiting would be on the list. Alas, only one: San Antonio Texas. However, I now have 51 other places I'd like to add to my travel bucket list...
2. Once again, I'd like to reiterate, whoever created the concept behind Dog Shaming deserves all the awards for comedy. Every time I see these poor pathetic looking dogs with their lists of crimes, I literally laugh out loud. During this list of the 17 Naughtiest Dogs of 2014, I was sitting on sofa, trying not to drop my laptop because I was laughing so hard. Genius!
3. Love, Love, Love Jenny Colgan! I started off with her book "Meet me at the Cupcake Cafe" mostly because it was hot pink and I thought it was about cupcakes. Turns out it was also a wonderful book full of humor and recipes! Being the good little reader that I am, I wanted to read all the rest of her books (she has lots!) but being the good little US citizen that I am, I couldn't because they're only published in Britain. Of course, seeing as I was in Britain about a year and a half ago, I used all my carry-on space to bring whatever I could find of hers home (I think the flight attendants hated me...). In the time since my trip, she's written a few more and I've discovered a few more that I didn't purchase. Luckily, I'll be back in a few months with a plan (I'm so shipping them home this time). And also luckily, I have her hilarious Twitter account and lovely articles like this one she's written for the Guardian to tide me over.
4. Seeing as I'm still debating the whole Project Life craze, I'm doing what every good 21st century girl does when she needs to research: I'm scouring Pinterest... Luckily, Pinterest is home to millions of crafty people who have loads of ideas as to why I shouldn't and should do Project Life. At the top of the Should list is the Single Girl's Scrapbook, a website I found during my research. Her scrapbooks are gorgeous! And since she's single like me, it's fun to see what all she's documenting. One of my major objections to the whole PL thing was that I don't have a Prince Charming or little prince & princesses to take photos of, therefore my album would be all sorts of boring. Apparently, I was way off, because I'm totally drooling over her creations!
5. Broadchurch Series 2 is every bit as beautiful, heart breaking and funny as Series 1. After one episode I'm back in that gorgeous town of Broadchurch on the coasts of Dorset, and very much engrossed in the powerful story. I was skeptical that it wouldn't be nearly as good as Series 1 but I needn't have worried! It's too soon to tell, but it may even be better...

Living in the Future
I may have already preached my love for living in the future. But there are some days, that you just have to get way too excited that it's 2015 instead of 1945. Today's love for technology stems from Tunnel Bear (a product I also may have shared my love for before.) But it needs to be said again. Tunnel Bear should be the product of the year, maybe the decade! It's a VPN that allows you to make your computer look like it's in another country.
There are many reasons, many good, enlightened and possibly earth changing reasons someone may want to do this. I'm sure coders use it all the time to test their creations. Me? I use it to watch Broadchurch & Sherlock. I'm not even going to lie...
Not only is it a great product, but it's super easy to use. You download the player, choose the country you want to VPN into and a few seconds later you're browsing the BBC and iTV. Seriously! It's that easy. There's a free version and paid version but even the paid version is pretty darn cheap and so worth the cost.
And now, thanks to it, I don't have to avoid every spoiler out of Britain for the next 2 months until Broadchurch series 2 comes here to the states. Also, since my stupid cable company deleted BBC America, Tunnel Bear just jumped up to the tippy top of my list of technological loves.

Friday Five
1. Toucan Taco's Sunken Burrito and Queso: If you were to look up the word "dive" in the dictionary, there would be a little picture of this Laurel MD restaurant. It's about as far from fine dining as you could possibly get. You're served with plastic silverware, and styrofoam cups, and your food comes in an old fashioned tv dinner aluminum foil tray. However, aside from being a little too spicy for my much too wimpy palette, the food is delicious! I always get the chicken sunken burrito which is covered in red chile sauce (thus sunken) with chips and queso on the side. Pretty much the perfect quick lunch!
2. I know his name is pretty much everywhere these days. Aside from being in just about every movie currently in theatres, he's also been giving tons of press. Most of which I read because hey, it's Benedict Cumberbatch. But this particular article really grabbed my attention. It could be that it's from the Guardian, whose reporters often ask the right questions. But I have the suspicion that his candid responses are just him; in which case, there's a lot there to respect.
3. While I've been idly daydreaming of schemes to get me to London, Janice MacLeod has discovered an out of the box way that allowed her to move to Paris and live a lovely life, with a book deal to boot. She decided after visiting Paris and falling in love with her now husband, she needed a way to afford to stay. So she started sketching scenes of the City of Light and sending them to subscription holders via snail mail. While I'm not sure how this works, and while I guarantee that my sketching abilities are nowhere near where they would need to be to make this work, it's a pretty nifty idea when you think about it. I will most definitely be reading the book come February.
4. I made no secret of the fact that I fell in love with Broadchurch when it was showing in the UK back in April. It was totally captivating in a way that American drama tends not to be: it was restrained and quiet but it packed a wallop. I had high hopes when it came here that those around me would feel the same, but I was skeptical they would (I tend to like things that are slightly out there and quite different than those around me...just weird I guess : ) But this time around, they loved it too. My mom has been consistently guessing each week as to who the murderer is just like I did and it's fun to see that it still holds up. Though, my big complaint is our stupid commercial scheme. BBC America has to cut so much from each episode to make room for commercials. I'd love to watch something from beginning to end and not have to worry about those darn ads!
5. The anticipation of good things to come. With so much going on in the next few weeks, it's exciting to be excited.

Saturday Six
1. This pin mostly because the comments sum up exactly how I feel after watching the finale an hour to go. Crazy-finales are usually ok but seriously?! We now have to wait until November to figure out what the heck just happened. My head hurts just thinking about it...
2. Annapolis in the summer. Yesterday we got a sneak peak at the summer to come; in the sense that it was finally warm and sunny enough to hang out side, which it seems, hundreds of people chose to do in downtown Nap-town. It was a beautiful evening, with great company and fantastic weather. Of course it was kinda crummy again today but now that we've had a taste, I'm sure there'll be many more beautiful Nap-town nights to come.
3. Embroidery: I know this makes me sound like a little old lady BUT I'm kind of loving it. It's so much easier than crochet and you can create any pattern you like with just a few quick stitches. I have a totally geeky and quite awesome project in my head right now but I'm some serious need of some very specific fabric. Whenever I find it, I promise to share though, don't get too excited, I'm a bit of a nerd and it's pretty geeky.
4. UK Press: Most people I know read the US press. That makes perfect sense to me. But for the really big stories, that everyone really needs to know, the UK Press covers them quite well so I'm still in the know. I'm just feeding my addiction for all things Brit. Every once in a while, though, I get a story that re-affirms why I read the UK papers and how much cooler their papers are than ours. This particular headline is one of those stories. Why is this even news? Because it's fabulous, that's why! : )
5. Olivia Colman: I must admit, I wouldn't have had a clue as to who she even was, if I hadn't watched Broadchurch, but now that I have, I find her fascinating! She's a brilliant actress and seems to be one of the most fun people to be around in the whole world. If you don't believe me, watch her acceptance speech for one of the two BAFTAs she received last weekend. After this speech, she earned a seat at the fantasy dinner party list. (Oh and I would kill for that dress she's wearing!)

6. Farmer's Market: There's a tiny one right down the street from my office that is open every summer, all summer. It just opened this week which in my book means that it's officially summer!

Friday Five
1. My new hanger for necklaces. I have to admit it hasn't been assembled yet so pictures are still to come but so far I love all the pieces separately which is a good sign. The stain turned out perfectly and I love the drawer-pulls. I can't wait to see it in use!
2. The resolution to Broadchurch and the fact that there'll be a surprise second season. The show was a mixture of a fantastic story and even better acting from seemingly everyone in the cast. They were just too good for words and they deserve any award that they'll surely be nominated for. In the end (which I won't divulge since it's coming here soon) I was totally right about who the killer was but still totally surprised by the storyline. I think the best thing about this 8 week show circling around a police investigation was no guns, no high speed chases, no threats and no malice by the cops. It was real investigating instead of the craziness that we see on our so called police shows. Though I'm still completely stumped as to what the second season will be about...
3. Dove's new Real Beauty campaign. It's been everywhere in the news this week. I wasn't sure about it at first but it won me over. It's about the neatest "experiment" I've ever seen with a pretty inspiring message.

Just Another Manic Monday...
~ It's freezing here even though it's almost May...freezing may be an exaggeration but 45 in April is slightly ridiculous!
~After some wins in the kitchen yesterday, I mistakenly thought I could whip up Earl Grey cupcakes with Brown Buttercream to celebrate Shakespeare's birthday quick as a lick. The teeny tiny cupcakes are adorable. Too bad no one will be trying them since the Brown Buttercream turned into brown grease...
~Desperately trying to avoid Facebook, Twitter, any and all British press to avoid learning "who killed Danny Latimer". It's driving me mad! I have high hopes it'll be up soon online but until then I'm dying to know what the rest of Britain knows!
~Looking forward to celebrating the Bard tomorrow (albeit without cute cupcakes) but I'm pretty sure no one around me will care.

Friday Five
1. Love!
2. Shopping is fairly enjoyable all the time, in my opinion. But when you go to the mall on the lookout for a specific piece of clothing and you find exactly what you were looking for (and some stuff you weren't looking for...), in exactly the correct size, AND the whole darn store is on sale, it makes it even more enjoyable. Scratch that, it makes it downright awesome! Let's just say, great progress was made on the needing a new wardrobe front...
3. The dream trip to England is (slooooowly, much too slowly for my liking) approaching so we've started booking hotels. Since Stratford-upon-Avon is a much smaller area than London, and seeing as Richard II sold out, we thought it wise to book that room first. We decided on the Legacy Falcon Hotel. Very Stratford-y if I do say so myself. And the best part is that it's right across the street from Shakespeare's school and right down a small alleyway is the Swan at the RSC where we'll be seeing the show. Woohoo! Maybe this trip-planning is going to be easier than I thought!
4. Polka Dots, my new fashion obsession. I've bought no less than 4 garments covered in these little happy dots this week. It's slightly excessive however, they seem to be "in" this year and since I'm not often "in" I'm just going to go with it!
5. In this week's TV category, I know I've said this before but it bears mentioning again: Broadchurch happens to be the best show on television right now that is not on television right now (our television anyway). It's taken London by storm based on articles I've read outlining the many suspects in the search for Who killed Danny Latimer? There are even bets being placed at Ladbrokes. It's slightly crazy. The worst part is that it's not on in the States yet. For that you need to find it online or wait until BBC America (who gloriously bought the rights to it from ITV) runs it months from now but by that time, I'm sure the cat will be out of the bag. With only 2 episodes left, I'm no closer to who the killer is than I was in Week 1 but that's the best part!

Just Another Day...
Today, somehow, I woke up without the aid of my alarm at the precise time I needed to get up.
Today this made me laugh; probably a bit more than it should have.
Today I'm desperately waiting for the second episode of Broadchurch to be uploaded online. I mean, technically it aired 7 hours ago in England. And honestly, it's 4 am there, they could take the time to upload it right now. Who needs sleep? : )
Today I read an entire book about the power of infographics. Said book had all kinds of fun free resources that are found online for creating them yourself. Now if I could just figure out what to graphically represent, I'd be all set.
Today I bought one pair of jeans and got the second pair free. Sweet!
Today I walked the entire length of my very long building 4 times round trip. Where was my pedometer when I needed it?
Today flew right on by. If only all Mondays were this easy.

Friday Five
1. Eudaimonia: I came across this word in an article this week. I'm assuming most people are like me and have never heard the word used before. Apparently it means "contented state of being happy and healthy and prosperous" which is just a lovely definition. The weird part is that for such a fabulous definition, you'd think the word itself would be more elegant. As it stands, it sounds like some terrible disease one gets from climbing through jungles. But it's a lovely thought nonetheless.
2. I've just finished my 4th book in the 44 Scotland series by Alexander McCall Smith. In the book Domenica quotes Auden as saying "If equal affection cannot be, let the more loving be me." I just loved the quote. It's beautiful and so lovey-dovey. I'm such a sap!
3. "Broadchurch": Technically I shouldn't have seen this since it's airing in Britain first before it comes here but thank goodness for the Internet. It's basically a British version of "The Killing" which I've never seen but heard was fabulous. The murder mystery plot catches you from the first few minutes and the secrets are just aggravating enough to keep you watching. I'm already dying to know why DI Hardy is so touchy about an old case or why the vicar looked so worried and I'm only one episode in. Hoping upon hope the next 7 will show up online because I'm not sure I can stay away from spoilers until it gets here.
4. Changing the clocks. I know this hasn't technically occurred yet, but it means that spring is right around the corner. I'm not sure about you, but I'm about done with gray days. I'm ready for some sun and flowers and color!
5. Republic of Tea's British Breakfast Tea: My current obsession. Some people crave Starbucks mocha-chino-latte things, I crave this boring old tea. So far the only place I've been able to find it is at Panera. But I've been keeping my eye out for it. It's good stuff!
