Texas Love

While it's always nice to be home, I'm always much happier when travelling.  After almost a week in Texas, I'd much rather be there than here.  Have I mentioned it's about 57 degrees here and in Texas it was 90?  That might have something to do with it.  It also might have something to do with Texas being a lot more calming than the riots and looting that are happening in Baltimore too.  It was a lovely trip and I loved spending it with my mom, but I also learned a few things too. (And took a few pics too - hope to weed my way through them tomorrow)

~ Mostly, I'm in love with Texas.  It's just so big!  It's warm, and friendly and so full of life, I'd move there in a heartbeat.

~ That being said, I'd move to Austin rather than San Antonio. San Antonio was a bit too spread out and not so much what I wanted it to be.  Austin on the other hand was exactly what I wanted it to be.  And I barely saw any of it.  Within an hour, I was already dreaming of buying a little rancher and settling down in the weird little city that is Austin.  I LOVED it!

~ Fiesta will shut down an entire city, so much so that cabbies will refuse to take you places ("streets are too busy!"), trolleys will stop running with no warning, and river taxis never come. Also, monuments will close with no warning and not re-open until after the party's over.  It makes getting around a bit too difficult.  My idea of a good time is not trying to logic a way around getting from point A to point B.

~ Some unreliable cabbies (not all of them of course) will cheat you by saying that they "forgot to turn the meter on" and then estimating what your cost will be. Also, not my idea of a good time.

~ The Alamo is tiny and is randomly placed in the middle of the city.

~ Somehow when dropped in the middle of the riverwalk, my mother and I will choose the wrong direction EVERY time.  I'm not sure how 2 intelligent people can get completely lost every single day.  Though somehow, manage to not get lost once in Austin.

~ The Spurs are kind of a big deal. A championship game is like the World Series and the Super Bowl all wrapped up in one.

~ Puffy Tacos are not as prevalent as Pinterest would have you believe...
