Feeling Bookish

I've always been a book girl.  Drop me in a a book store and you won't find me for days.  I won't use eReaders.  I love the feeling of opening a book for the first time and diving in. My bookshelves are currently overpopulated. So one could say that I'm familiar with libraries.  But I am in awe of the things I learned about my (I say my like it's mine...I mean the AA County) library this evening!

I attended another successful Job Club this evening to listen to a librarian talk about the resources the library had to offer.  Now I had absolutely no interest in this talk because I had visions of little old librarian talking about card catalogs and Micro-phish, but I went anyway because last week was so nice.  My initial thoughts were dead wrong!  I never knew what library systems had to offer...for free!!!!  I'm not sure if this is a national thing or just in Maryland, but this information should be sung from the rooftops!  If you enter their website, and sign in using your library card (which can be applied for in 30 seconds if you don't already have one), you can enter one of about 500 different databases.  In these databases you can read the Baltimore Sun, The Wall Street Journal, or databases on Genealogy, Federal Agencies, etc.

But that's certainly not all.  I've been wanting to take a class on web design using Adobe Creative Suite.  Without paying a dime, I can take web based training on just about any program imaginable.  If I'm having issues with said programs, I can download 1 of a thousand different manuals and/or Dummies books.  Or if I really need to brush up on my Spanish or Statistics (or about a hundred other subjects), I can take web based training on those as well.  Along with these amazing services, they have live online support for resume writing or face-to-face support for job hunting.

So after all that, I guess what I'm trying to say is "Support your Local Libraries!!" They are treasure troves of information and should not be demolished because more people like eReaders than paperbacks.

Going along with the book-lover theme, I couldn't resist stealing this from Facebook.  It sums up everything I was trying so in-eloquently to say. And it's super cute!
