I've been wanting to see it for the last few years, and this year I was finally able to attend. I had a blast! The inventiveness and creativity on parade blew me away! The day was gorgeous and the size of the crowd reflected that. We had a pretty good seat in Canton to see the water launch. Some people actually follow the race around the city but I was content to see them in one area (this may have had something to do with the fact that it was about 85 degrees outside!). This felt like one of those quintessential Maryland things to do and I had so much fun seeing it! I will most definitely be attending next year. I only wish I understood physics a little better so I could actually enter the race.
EL PLATYPUS: Personal Long-range All Terrain Yacht Proven Un-Safe
Fifi: AVAM's mascot who had an epic fail last year when she capsized in the harbor. This year she's back showing them how it's done dressed as Frida Kahlo in honor of Cinco de Mayo (and my niece's personal favorite)
In my top 5 for the great name and the fact that their Eifel Tower is entirely made of cork.
Because who doesn't want a golden car speckled with rhinestones?
Also in my top 5, just because he's super cute!
Top 5 because I'm a sucker for Steampunk. Notice their bike helmets? They're all wearing gears and their grounds crew were wearing screws. Love it!
Top 5. How can you not LOVE a 20 foot Banana Split?
Top 5 because I'm a hippie at heart and this float was created by my alma mater's Art Department.
This is considered High Fashion at the Race.
Sculpture Corral waiting to take a dip in the harbor.
