Broadway Baby
I am a self-proclaimed Broadway musical lover. It all started in 7th grade music class with Jesus Christ Superstar. One note into "Heaven on their Minds" and I was hooked. Since then I've seen it live 3 times (once, with Ted Neely...OMG literally!) I moved on from Superstar to Godspell which was just as amazing! Then came 3rd row seats for Phantom of the Opera, so close I could feel the heat whent they lit the torches. I don't think I stopped smiling the entire show. From there I moved on to RENT (3 times), Wicked (with Joel Grey, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth), The Producers (Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick), Les Miserables (I may lose my theatre cred but thought it was just, eh), Mamma Mia, Spamalot and Tick, Tick Boom! The musicals spread led to plays as well, including The Graduate and Boeing, Boeing (totally fantastic cast led by Bradley Whitford). The more I see the more I want to see. If I could live in NYC, I'd be completely broke from buying tickets for every opening I could get my hands on. I'd live in the TKTS line, I'm sure.
So, what's this have to do with anything? Well, I realized this morning I missed the theatre-junkies' national holiday...The Tony Awards! How is that possible? I never miss the Tony's, especially when hosted by every Broadway Baby's god: Neil Patrick Harris. After binging on all the clips I could find on YouTube and commiting the winners list to memory, I realized I needed to get my mojo back. It's been 2 years since I last saw a show and that's entirely too long! There will be a trip to mecca (NYC, of course) very soon. I'm thinking Harvey is the way to go. It's an old classic, led by the hillarious Jim Parsons. How can you not love Sheldon!? Then back to my roots, the revival of Jesus Christ Superstar is getting rave reviews. There's no day but today!
So...Curtain Up, Light the Lights!
