I may not be a huge fan of Halloween, however I am a big fan of the Mexican holiday of Dia de los Muertos. The holiday is a day to honor lost loved ones by bringing them gifts of sugar skulls for the afterlife. When I first learned about it, years ago, it wasn't as popular as it is today. These days you can't walk into a single store that sells Halloween goods without seeing sugar skulls everywhere - which is ok if you're me. I have plates, ceramics, hats, photos, books. I even have a few rubber stamps. It's a weird little obsession I have.
But how can you not love a holiday that focuses solely on lost loved ones being honored and remembered and celebrated? I've never really had a desire to go to Mexico, but after years of reading of this festival, I have to say, it's most definitely on the travel bucket list!
