For the last few years, I've been sort of intrigued by the Met Gala. Each year hundreds of the 1% get all dolled up in gorgeous gowns and tuxedos and then do...something. From what I can tell, they definitely walk the red carpet, but after that, I'm not entirely sure. There's never really chatter about what happens inside the gala. One would assume the beautiful people eat yummy food and I suppose dance. That's what I would do at a gala, but then again I'm not a gazillionaire.
What I love most is seeing the gowns. They're always either incredibly gorgeous or incredibly off the wall. It's a toss-up as to what I want them to be. It's always fun to look at beautiful gowns that I'll never get the chance to wear in a million years, but it's also fun to see just how crazy the rich can get and still be considered stylish and chic. Like the year Kim Kardashian decided to wear a dress that looked roughly like a sofa but is still considered a fashion icon.
This year however, there's a theme. Apparently there always is, but I've never really noticed it in the gowns. But in 2016, the theme is Fashion meets Technology. A great theme for the 21st century, obviously. Though, I'm not thinking it translates well to gowns. When you want to look beautiful, high-heeled combat boots and silver and strappy looking things, don't really scream high-class. I'm not even sure they scream class at all - maybe robot-class. I will admit though, with all the robots and computers, it finally gave the guys their time to shine. Their classic tuxedos couldn't look any more dapper and classy. (So dreamy!)
But then again, I've never been accused of being a fashion icon myself, so what do I know? I'm assuming tomorrow, all the fashion bloggers and writers will set finger to keyboard and gush over just how gorgeous these women look. But in my opinion, a little black dress is just so much better than chain maile, so that's what I'll be wearing the next time I'm invited to the gala - in my dreams, of course : )
