I've been holding out hope for a very long time, that eventually a horse would win the Triple Crown in my lifetime. Seeing as the last one was in 1978, it was well before my time. I thought it just might happen last year but then California Chrome was injured and unable to run in Belmont.
I had an inkling that American Pharaoh might have a chance after the Derby, mostly because the press were eating the story up. Then the win at the Preakness came by such a huge margin, it was all but inevitable. As excited as I was during the lead up for Belmont, for some reason I completely forgot about the race today, until I caught it in the bar at the restaurant I was eating in this evening.
Thank goodness for small miracles! After all this desire for a Triple Crown, I finally got to see it happen in real time. And it was pretty darn Awesome!
Congrats to American Pharaoh and Congrats to Victor Espinoza! You're truly 2 for the record books!
