Though this time it's a bit too close to home. This morning's mall shooting in Maryland that killed 3 (including the gunman), occurred in a mall in which I spend all too much time. I'm there at least 5 times a month and in fact it's the go to shop for most of my family and friends. But, thank goodness, everyone I know and love is safe tonight and weren't near the mall today.
The number of shootings like this has increased quite a bit in the last few years so I suppose it was only a matter of time until something like this happened here in Maryland. But it's so scary to see somewhere you love all over the news and know exactly where in the mall the incident happened. I've walked by that particular area dozens of times, but now all I can think of is how close it is to the carousel where kids play all the time. I can only imagine what it was like to hear those shots ring out.
I know in the coming days, the lawmakers will bring the story back around to gun control legislation. And for that I'm quite grateful. If a tragedy like this can teach us anything it's that guns need tougher controls so no families have to go through what the hundreds of shoppers and workers in Columbia went through today.
