I suppose it was only a matter of time. If you didn't see it coming, you've been oblivious to the entertainment world for the past year. In utterly un-surprising news Justin Bieber was arrested today for a DUI amongst other charges (ironically not underage drinking seeing as though he's only 19...). And of course when he was arrested, the entirety of the world press turned off all other news to focus on this "ongoing saga" CNN called it this morning. Really?! The story of a spoiled little rich kid thinking he can do what he wants when he wants is really the definition of hard hitting journalism?
There are riots in Syria and the Ukraine. The world's at athletes are preparing to enter a relatively unsafe area of Russia. The North East is in the middle of frigid temps and nasty weather which are shutting down flights and travel. Yet, CNN took the time this morning to read, word for word, the first hand account of the police officer that arrested a drunk 19 year old. I just don't understand.
Yes for some unknown reason, he's a mega superstar. But he's also a punk who lives to cause trouble because he gets airtime. If we really want him to stop acting like the celebrity diva he is, we need to stop giving him all the attention. We need to stop treating him like he's anything more than a 19 year old with talent. Not a single press release would have been sent had it been some other kid with a DUI. When he was arrested this morning, the Miami PD shouldn't have issued any statement (something I'm sure his lawyers are going to have a field day with and will most likely use to throw the charges out) and none of the networks should have changed the subject from important, life-changing news.
Taking away their toys is the only way kids ever learn.
