I saw this quote on a scrapbook page on Pinterest today and it sort of stuck with me. I like that description. It sort of explains away my weird tendencies of making rather than buying. I am always that person that would much rather dream up my own gift for showers than going off of a pre-determined registry. I walk around Home Goods, brushing off items that I could "much more easily make" much to most friends' chagrin.
I'd much rather make a cake or dessert than buy it from some store. I'd much rather make my own salsa than buy bottled. I make photo albums into little pieces of art rather than just viewing them on my computer. There's just something about homemade.
When I try to tell friends about this fact, they don't really get it. They don't understand why it feels so much better to give someone a gift or card or cake that's made with love, rather than running to the store to get something they may or may not like. They don't get why I spend so much time at Christmas making cards or gifts for people who may not give the same level of time in return.
Here's the thing. I like being that girl. It gives me a small amount of satisfaction knowing that my gift came from my heart and my own two hands. I just hope the giftees feel the same level of love and appreciation that I do when I receive something home made. There's really nothing better!
